Criminal Investigations Division


Capt. Danielson 001Captain Mike Danielson supervises the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). Captain Danielson reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Police. The division is divided into two sections, the General Investigations Unit (GIU), and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

General Investigations Unit

The General Investigations Unit is responsible for the investigation of serious felonies and misdemeanors as well as conducting crime scene/forensic examinations. he majority of case assignments originate from Part I offenses that include murder, rape, arson, burglary, larceny, auto larceny, and aggravated assaults. Detectives are assigned cases CIDbased on their expertise, knowledge, and skill qualification whenever possible. Detectives continually investigate financial crimes such as: embezzlement, forgery, credit card fraud, and other financial crimes. Detectives also conduct police officer applicant background investigations. This unit works closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on joint investigations involving matters of mutual concern. One detective is dedicated to investigate violent crimes against women to include domestic assault which is funded through a state grant. Anyone with information about a crime can call the Winchester-Frederick County Crime Solvers Hotline at (540) 665-TIPS (8477).  Remember, callers may remain anonymous. If you have ANY information regarding any of the above-mentioned crimes, please call us any time at (540) 545-4704.  If your information leads to an arrest and conviction, you may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Remember, you CAN remain anonymous.

Special Investigations Unit

The Special Investigations Unit is responsible for Narcotics, Gang Investigations, Fire & Explosives Investigations and Criminal Intelligence. SIU members participate in the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force and Northwest Regional Gang Task Force. Any information from concerning drugs or gang activity please contact 545-4709
