The starting salary for Police Officer I is $49,753.60. The starting salary for Virginia Certified Officers is commensurate with experience.
Virginia Certified Officers are eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus upon hire.

The entire application process may take several months to finalize. As you complete each phase, you will receive notification advising you of your status and the requirements of the next process. At the end of your application, you can attach additional files like your resume, cover letter, reference list, and copies of your licenses or certifications.
Once your online application has been successfully submitted, you'll immediately receive a confirmation message. Your application will then be reviewed by our Recruiter and forwarded along to the Police Department if deemed a good fit.
Qualified applicants will be contacted for an in-depth questionnaire and physical agility testing.
An interview date and time will be determined upon availability of personnel. Upon completion of the interview, a brief 20-minute writing sample will be completed.
The applicant will be contacted by a Polygraph Examiner to arrange a date and time for the polygraph. After the polygraph the results will be evaluated and a decision will be made if the applicant will continue to the next step in the process.
Applicants will be required to undergo a psychological evaluation.
The background investigation involves a credit check, reference checks, and a detailed investigation in your background. This process can take up to four weeks and longer. Once a background report is complete, it is reviewed by the Deputy Chief and Chief of Police for a hire recommendation.
Applicants will be required to complete a medical examination and a drug screening. This also includes a vision, hearing, and color blind test.
