Volunteers in Policing

The Volunteers In Policing (VIP)(PDF, 194KB) program was formed in 1998 by then Lieutenant William Griffith. The VIPs were formed to assist the Police Department with the many special activities and community events that were being performed by police officers. With the VIPs assisting or taking over these events, officers are able to attend to their first responder duties.

Our Volunteers in Policing are a spirited, hard-working, and diverse group of people. The VIPs have been awarded numerous unit citations for their extensive number of volunteer hours.

The duties they perform include fingerprinting children, crime prevention education, community service, providing security, handicap parking enforcement, crowd control, directing traffic, performing citizen patrols, and assisting with the Citizen Police Academy.
