On October 26, 2024, Winchester Police arrested William Barry Byrne, 43, of Berkley Springs, Wv, who was charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Officers were dispatched to Winchester Audio in reference to an open 911 line where two males were talking and one of the males was mentioning a gun. Upon arrival, an officer was able to identify the suspect who was attempting to leave in a vehicle. The officer placed him in investigative detention until more officers could arrive to assist with the investigation. It was determined through investigation and interviews that Byrne was upset over a financial matter between him and the business.

Byrne later arrived at the store, very irate, and in the possession of a firearm. Byrne took money from the store, pointed the firearm at an employee, and stole two items valued at $1000 and left.

Due to the quick response from WPD officers, Byrne was detained and arrested. He was charged with Armed Robbery (18.2-58) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (18.2-308.2). Byrne was held at the NRADC without bond and the stolen items were returned to the business by officers.
