The Winchester Police Department arrested a Frederick County man after he lead officers on a chase through the city. Officers were called to Walmart on South Pleasant Valley Road on Wednesday around 7 p.m. in reference to a shoplifting. When officers arrived the suspect left the scene in a pickup truck. The vehicle turned south on South Pleasant Valley Road and officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The truck continued travelling at a high rate of speed and made a left-hand turn onto Leicester Street where the driver lost control of the vehicle hitting a fence and porch in the 400 block of South Loudoun Street. The driver left the scene on foot and officers caught up to him. Ashby Stoneberger, 26, was arrested and taken to Winchester Medical Center for treatment. He was released and taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center. Stoneberger is charged with felony shoplifting, felony eluding police, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, destruction of property, driving under the influence of drugs, and additional charges may be pending.
